27 views1 pages

Document Summary

The genesis homilies were written by st. john chrysostom, to explain the most challenging biblical questions to his church in antioch. It is a challenging read which brings many observations and questions. The first observation that i had when reading the text is the use of analogies to get the point across. Almost immediately, the use of these analogies and symbols is evident. Chrysostom talks of our spiritual thirst that can only be quenched by god. The spiritual stream is always pouring and the more we thirst for it, the greater it flows in us and fills our belly with spiritual grace. The second observation i have is when the chrysostom talks of how god separated the light from the darkness. He deals with that the text means by this. Light allows us to see and gives us direction, which is what christ did through his life on earth.
