Riot grrrl is a movement that was started by kathleen hanna, lead singer of bikini kill, in the early 1990s. Riot grrrl manifesto was written by hanna to publicly declare the movement"s policy and aims. Each line in the manifesto begins with the word because in order to emphasize that the statements made are the reasons the movement exists. Manifesto was published in the bikini kill zine 2. The list is visibly angry, including several capitalized words and sentences. This type of anger directed towards the goal of empowerment is similar to the music bikini kill performs. Kathleen states injustices that oppress females in general, such as drawing attention to the fact that they (bikini kill and other members of the movement) don"t want to conform to male standards of what is or isn"t acceptable. She explains that the movement isn"t interested in hierarchical ways of doings things, and makes it clear that the movement believes capitalism is the enemy.
