Riots, lynch mobs and vigilante groups = forms of collective behaviour that are relatively spontaneous and unplanned. Difference between a mob and a crowd = crowd is just a group of people who may/may not share a common purpose. Mob is a crowd seen as being out of control or a crowd waiting for a trigger to set it off. Modern theories: clark mcphail = portrays individuals in mob as much more rational.
