Film editing = the process through which different images or shots are linked together sequentially. Continuity editing = editing that gives the viewer the impression that the actions unfolds with spatiotemporal consistency: each shot has a continuous relation to the next shot. Cut = the join or splice between two pieces of film. Fade-out = an optical effect in which an image gradually darkens to black. Fade-in = when a black screen gradually brightens to a full picture. Jump cuts = edits that intentionally create gaps in the action. Verisimilitude = the quality of fictional representation that allows reader or views to accept a constructed world as plausible. Establishing shot = an initial long shot that establishes the location and setting and orients the viewer in a space to a clear view of the action. Two-shot = a relatively close shot of two characters (usually in conversation)
