Document Summary
[developmental psychology ii: self and identity: analyze the nature and development of our sense of self. When infants are born, evidence suggests that their ability to reason about themselves as separate from those around them is extremely limited, compared to what it will eventually become. The rouge test: test used to determine development of a sense of self by using a dot of red colour (rouge) on the nose of the child or animal. The test subject is placed in front of a mirror and observed to see if recognition occurs. Guided movements: attempts to interact with one(cid:284)s environment represent a sense of self in its basic form. Mirror fighting: the chimpanzees initially treated their own reflections in the mirror as they would treat an unfamiliar chimp, by vocalizing, threatening it, or even inviting it to play. Look at me now: the chimps began to recognize themselves in the mirror and used their newly gained perspective for tasks.
