People often show signs of these disorders as early as age two, and symptoms persist across the life span. Early intervention can be used to treat these disorder; help people learn to display normative behaviours. Social interactions: few non verbal behaviours (eye contact, smiling, frowning, etc. , failure in developing relationships with peers, failure to reciprocate social interactions. Communication: delay in acquiring spoken language, difficulty initiating and maintaining conversation, unusual language perseverations, echolalia, pronoun reversal, lack of make belief play or imitation of others (i. e. games like peek-a-boo not found to be entertaining) Activities and interests: preoccupation, stereotyped and repetitive movements, preoccupation with parts of objects, unusual use of objects. Those with autism often have problems with theory of mind. Theory of mind: the ability to attribute one"s thoughts, ideas, etc. to their own mind and recog(cid:374)ize that other"s (cid:373)ay ha(cid:448)e differi(cid:374)g (cid:448)ie(cid:449)s. Echolalia: repetition of words or phrases by other people.
