People with this disorder feel the same urges to engage in gambling, same difficulty removing themselves from gambling as people with substance abuse disorders. Neural activation for people with gambling disorder compared to substance addictions are similar. Similar withdrawal effects when they stop gambling, they experience physiological sensations (irritability, tension, etc. ) Used to be considered an impulse-control disorder (ex. kleptomania, pyromania: people (cid:449)ho (cid:449)ere i(cid:373)pulse (cid:272)ould(cid:374)"t (cid:272)o(cid:374)trol the impulse to go gamble; risky behaviour, more similar to addictive now, so now classified as addictive in dsm-5. Issue appears to take a number of different forms; hard to come up with objective criteria. People have compulsion to be on internet & engage in online games, impairs functioning. Similar withdrawal symptoms when forced away for extended period of time (irritability, anxiety, dominates thoughts, etc. ) Internet use addicted to various websites to the point where it is hard to pull away: some same neural activation & withdrawal symptoms.
