Clinical assessment: the systematic evaluation and measurement of psychological, biological and social factors in an individual presenting with a possible disorder. Diagnosis: process of determining whether or not symptoms presented by an individual meet criteria for disorder as outlines by the dsm-5. Brian"s case: has sought many forms of treatment before for unwanted aggressive thoughts towards others, even children in his family, and thoughts of self-harm. Clinician begins by getting a broad overview on the patient and what brought them in, but will narrow into a few persistent issues they believe are most relevant. Validity: whether a technique assesses what is it meant to: concurrent or descriptive validity comparing results from one test to another, predictive validity how well you assessment tells you will happen in the future. Standardization: certain set of standards/norms is determined for a technique to make it consistent across different measurements: should get same result across cultures, age, race, gender, identity etc.
