The steps include: a hypothesis- an educated guess about expected findings it is phrased as if it is a fact. Eliminate confounds, which is a factor that makes the results uninterpretable because they measure something other than what was intended. Confounds can be eliminated (internal validity increased) by having : Control groups: groups that are the same as experimental group in every way besides the independent variable. Randomization: putting people in the groups in a way that every person has an equal chance of being in any group. This eliminates systematic bias because certain people may put themselves in a group if they have a choice. Analogue models: controlled lab conditions that are similar to the real life situation. Having bulimic people binge eat in the lab for example and then questioning them. Statistical significance math calculation about the difference between groups.
