The act of altering someone"s regular behavior or beliefs by social pressure: ex. Groups of people making someone do something they do not want to or believe in. Is believing in the act you are doing and acting due to social pressure. Muzafer sherif saw that other people"s judgments of the movement of a point of light influenced people. People are more likely to conform if lots of other people are doing it or if those groups of people have status. Conform most when their responses are showcased in front of the group because they don"t want to be known as the odd man out. A prior commitment from a person to do or believe in something will increase the likelihood that a person will stick to that commitment than conform. Group cohesion will raise the likelihood of someone in that group conforming because you are develop a stronger relationship with that group.
