8:30 pm: affect= immediate, physiological response to a stimuli. Combo of positive affect in the absence of negative affect, and general life satisfaction: often used as synonym for happiness. Joy induces play, which builds in kids: enduring social and intellectual resources by encouraging attachment, higher levels of creativity, brain development, adults who are more playful have less perceived stress and cope better. Also linked to greater life satisfaction: through the effects of broadening, positive emotions can help build resources. Initial level of positive emotions predicted overall increases in coping: thus positive emotions generate resources (coping) which maintains positive emotions, which creates more resources and so forth. Positive emotions and the common cold: positive emotions increase resistance to common cold, ppl low on positive emotional style were 3 times more likely to get sick. Age-old definitions of happiness: eudaimonia= human flourishing associated with living a life of virtue, aristotle.
