Dsm-5 prefers schizophrenia spectrum disorders since there is overlap of disorders. Positive symptoms: rep an excess of normal function. Negative symptoms: rep a loss of normal function. Positive symptoms include: delusions, hallucinations, inappropriate affect, disorganized speech or thought. = delusions, hallucinations, inappropriate affect, disorganized speech or thought, odd behaviour. Delusions of being controlled aliens making me steal . Persecution my mom is poisoning me . Grandeur kobe bryant thinks i"m great at b-ball . Hallucinations : imaginary voices that make critical comments or tell the patient what to do. Inappropriate affect: don"t react appropriate to pos/neg events. Disorganized speech or thought: illogical thinking, weird association b/w ideas, believing in the supernatural. Odd behaviour: can"t perform everyday tasks as well as they used to, lack of hygiene, rhyming. Catatonia: remain motionless awkward positions for long periods. These symptoms need to occur for 1 month for sufficient diagnosis of schizophrenia.
