Document Summary
Week 13: explain what intelligence is and how it is measured. Alfred binet: believed that intelligence is a collection of higher order mental abilities. He also believed that interaction with the environment was an important factor indeed, more important than genetics alone. In contrast to galton, binet"s measurements of intelligence were intended to identify children who were less intelligent so that they could receive special education. Binet and simon: introduced the concept of mental age into their test outcomes which was a description of the child"s score in terms of how it compared to the score of an average child of a particular age. Galton: believed that intelligence is based on biology and reasoned that it must be related to other biologically based phenomena. He sought to determine the relationship between intelligence and other biologically based attributes. He was trying to correlate more general descriptions of intelligence with physical factors, was unsuccessful.
