Cognitive psychology: the scientific study of the mind. Seeks to determine the properties and mechanisms of the mind. Cognition: mental processes such as perception, attention, and memory (see elements of cognitive psychology below). Elements of cognitive psychology: knowledge (and categorizing) One of the early pioneers of cognitive psychology was franciscus donders. The goal of this was to study reaction time between the presentation of the stimulus and corresponding behavioural response. Another pioneer in cognitive psychology was hermann ebbinghaus. Donders" and ebbinghaus" experiments shine light on an important thing to note about cognitive psychology research. We cannot study the mind directly and therefore must make inferences based on behavioural responses. Wilhelm wundt founded the first scientific psychological laboratory. He was also a founder of the idea of structuralism, which states that what the mind experiences comes from external sensations.
