Document Summary
(religion) is religion opposed to science - john haught. The main reason that people say scientists cannot believe in religion is because religion cannot demonstrate the truth of it"s ideas in a straightforward way, where science can. Science tests it"s theories and hypothesis with experience, therefore causing conflict between science and religion. Religious ideas are untestable, not open to the public, where science allows public examination. Science can eliminate bad ideas when proven wrong whereas religion cannot. Religion relies heavily on untamed imagination, and science sticks to observable facts. Religion is also emotional, passionate and subjective, and science is objective. When science separated facts from values it took away meaning. Science and region completely contrast because they have entirely different tasks. Science and religion are such completely interdependent ways of understanding reality that it is meaningless to place them in opposition to each other.
