Focus on 3 issues: what is criminology, popular misconceptions of criminology: what is criminology, crime in popular culture false knowledge in false realities depicted through pop cultures criminology is a common topic. Serial killer cinema: advertisement for fbi, (ex: silence of the lambs) Gangs: around the time teenager was created, seemed to threaten existing sets of power relations, rock n roll music affecting teens making them more dangerous and more of a threat. Television drama: can"t tell the difference b/w entertainment and reality, like the confusion. Atypicality: focus on the crimes that occur least frequently. The more rare it gets, more interesting it is for us. Simplicity: notion that all problems have simple solutions, crime is presented to us as a relatively simple story (corporate crime is too complicated for people) We"re uncomfortable when we"re not talking about people (no human element) maintain our networks. Status quo orientation: keeping things the way they are.
