The commissioner found that aboriginal affairs and the department of justice seemed to violate the spirit of the privacy act when they compiled reams of information from. The decision shows that even if information is somehow publicly available, the government can"t just go and collect it in an organized fashion, An indigenous woman who is an activist and lawyer who was working on behalf of indigenous kids on reserve and has taken the federal court because the fed. Gov. has failed to give funding to kids on reserves. The department of justice was essentially pissed off because she filed human rights claims and decided to investigate her facebook activity. The spying that occurred are outside of the law, they are not legally allowed to do that so you"re not supposed to investigate political activity unless it is connected to terrorism activities.
