Criminology: the study of crime and criminal behaviour, which are defined by reference to criminal law. Ubc annouced criminology as a program in 1951-59. The progra(cid:373) argued that offe(cid:374)ders (cid:449)ere (cid:374)o lo(cid:374)ger (cid:271)elie(cid:448)ed to (cid:271)e (cid:858)(cid:271)or(cid:374)(cid:859) (cid:271)ut rather made through events and circumstances. Deviance: behaviour that differs from the accepted social norms; may include ats that violate specific rules (crime), sexual behaviour, or non-criminal ats that challenged accepted values. Criminology emerged after ww2 due to urbanization and industrialization where new rise in crime took place from the substantial migration; often arising in the urban poor (drunk, prostitution) Demographics: statistical data relating to characteristics of a population, such as relative size of age groups, gender balance, or any other measurable information. Increased number of young men mid 1960s as well as baby boomers who were reaching their crime prone age. Correlation: the finding that two measurable phenomena occur together, suggesting a relationship, but not necessarily one of direct cause and effect.
