CYC 302 Chapter 12: Time In Chapter 12 Lecture:Text Notes
Document Summary
Feelings are composed of sensory and emotional experiences; sensory experiences are the initial building blocks to learning as children experience the world through 5 senses and interpret those senses. Sensory experiences inform children as to whether the experience was pleasant/unpleasant. Emotional experiences inform children as to their wants and needs and emotions provide clues on how children should behave/think/interact. Feelings can inform children as to what they need to change/what not to change, how to react to certain individuals/situations, what experiences to avoid and embrace and what makes them feel safe/unsafe. Feelings are a form of energy that can motivate and create or can immobilize and destroy; when children"s feelings are accepted/expected/cherished they feel acknowledged and validated. Facilitators must be in touch with their own feelings and be able to readily express them. The use of feelings and creative expression with children is more meaningful and productive than thinking the problem through logically.
