Document Summary
Intellectual capital: the collective brainpower or shared knowledge of a workforce. Knowledge workers: persons whose minds, not just their physical capabilities are critical assets. We are entering the conceptual age, which belongs to people with whole mind competencies that are both high concept and high touch . High concept: creative and good with ideas. High touch: joyful and good with relationships. Workforce diversity: describes differences among workers in gender, race, age, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, and able-bodliedness. Prejudice: the display of negative, irrational attitudes toward members of diverse populations. Discrimination: actively denies minority members the full bene ts of organizational membership. Example: when a manager fabricates reasons not to interview a minority job candidate, or refuses to promote a working mother for fear that parenting responsibilities may make it hard for her to do a good job. The glass ceiling effect: an invisible barrier limiting career advancement of women and minorities.
