A social theory can rarely explain why your sister decided to get a degree in nursing and not engineering. But it can explain why generally more females than males chose nursing over engineering. Social theories state a probability, chance or tendency for events to occur rather than stating that one event must follow another. Social theory a system of interconnected abstractions or ideas that condenses and organizes knowledge about the social world. Macrosocial theory focuses on society at the level of social structures and populations. They focus on society as a whole on a large scale. Their focus on structure means that they explain social life at high levels of abstraction. Focuses on the grand processes of social order. Microsocial theory is focused on individuals and individual action.
