Chapter 1: from beginning to end an overview of systems analysis and design. Computer application: a software program that is executed on the computer to perform certain functions. Information system: set of interrelated computer components that collects, processes, stores (in database usually) and provides as output needed to complete tasks: may include software, database and related manual processes. Systems analyst: the person (software architect) who understands and captures a vision of another; middle person of programmers and the business people. Included are skills, steps, guidelines and tools that leads to the programming. Includes soft" skills (interviewing and talking to users); hard" skills (detailing specifications and designing solutions: technical skills associated with creating models that captures specifications or define solution. Systems analysis: activities that allows a person to understand and specify what a system can do: describes the what" that systems must do to satisfy the need or solve the problem.
