Document Summary

Green data centres: there are many business and social problems that are caused by data center power consumption. Two major power consumptions are hydroelectric plants or coal-fired power plants. Between the two, hydroelectric plants seem to be less impactful on the environment than coal-fired power plants. Coal-fired power plants generate large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Coal-fired power plants are a huge issue concerning global warming claimed by many scientists and politicians. Social implications also have increased power consumption and have been pointed to global warming: in this case study, the reader is introduced to some solution to cut energy consumption, which is a good start. One of the solutions mentioned in this case study was building data centers which take advantage of hydroelectric power generation rather than coal-fired power plants. These building data centers also generate renewable energy projects; alternative energy; more efficient chips; software that could automatically turn a user"s computer off; employee telecommuting.
