Document Summary

11 nervous system: fundamentals of the nervous system and nervous tissue (focused) The nervous system is the master controlling and communicating system of the body. Its cells communicate by electrical and chemical signals, which are rapid and specific, and usually cause almost immediate responses. Sensory integration motor: sensory input: the nervous system uses its millions of sensory receptors to monitor changes occurring both inside and outside the body. We have one highly integrated nervous system that is divided into two principal parts: central nervous system (cns): consists of the brain and spinal cord, which occupies the dorsal body cavity. The cns is the integrating and the control center of the nervous system. Spinal nerves carry impulses to and from the spinal cord, and cranial nerves carry impulses to and from the brain. Pns can be divided into two groups: sensory and afferent. These impulses activate the muscles to contract and the glands to secrete.
