Bladder stores urine until urge to urinate develops. Left kidney higher than right due to anatomical position of liver. Waste products of metabolism collect in blood then ltered in kidneys. Blood reaches kidney by renal artery that branches from the abdominal aorta. 20-25% of co circulates each minute through kidneys. Nephron forms the urine & is composed of the following structures: glomerulus, glomerular capillaries permit ltration of water, glucose, amino acids, urea, large proteins & blood cells don"t lter creatinine, and major electrolytes into bowman"s capsule. Presence of large proteins in urine (proteinuria) is sign of glomerular injury.
