NUR 80A/B Chapter Notes - Chapter 16: Data Management, Data Analysis, Abstract And Concrete
Document Summary
Data analysis is particularly challenging for qualitative researchers, for three major reasons: There are no universal rules for analyzing and summarizing qualitative data. There is an enormous amount of work required. It is difficult to reduce data for reports. Template analysis style: researchers usually begin with a rudimentary template before collecting data, but the template undergoes constant revision as the data are gathered and analyzed. Editing analysis style: researchers using an editing style act as interpreters who read through texts in search of meaningful segments. Immersion/crystallization analysis style: this style involves the analyst"s total immersion in and reflection of the text materials, resulting in an intuitive crystallization of the data. Four cognitive processes that play a role in qualitative analysis: Comprehending: when comprehension is achieved, researchers are able to prepare a thorough description of the phenomenon under study, & new data do not add much to that description.
