Indian (which is the correct term) i often find myself using east indian instead to distinguish myself from indigenous people who either identify or are referred to incorrectly as indian . Something i"ve always found extraordinarily odd is that despite christopher columbus" mistake in calling indigenous people of the america"s indian as a result of his failed voyage to find. India for the spice trade, western society still refers to indigenous people as indian even though they know it is incorrect to do so. As a result, i"ve always found it strange that i"ve had to refer to myself as east indian so i"m not causing confusion to people who have a misrepresentation for what indian actually is. Culturally speaking i"ve always identified predominantly as canadian due to the fact that i am.
