Document Summary
Learning: the process by which experiences change our nervous system and our behaviour. Memories: changes in our nervous system which affect our behaviour. Perceptual learning: ability to learn to recognize stimuli that have been perceived before. Primary function is to identify and categorize objects and situations. Stimulus-response: ability to learn to perform a particular behaviour when a particular stimulus is present. Could be an automatic response (reflex) or a complicated set of movements. Motor learning: establishment of changes within motor systems of the brain. Relational learning: involves learning the relationships among individual stimuli. The primary visual cortex receives information from the lateral geniculate nucleus of the thalamus. Information is sent to the extrastriate cortex divided into two streams Classical conditioning: form of learning in which an unimportant stimulus acquires the properties of an important one. Instrumental conditioning: involves behaviours that have been learned & involves an association between a response & a stimulus.
