Document Summary

To roger a healthy individual is a person that experiences a congruence between self and expereince. Self-experience discrepancy: discrepancy between psychological experiences and self awareness of the experience. Rogers did not want to place people in categories. Rationalization: where you are making/changing/distorting the idea to make it consistent with your self ex. if youre a good person, and don"t make mistakes, youll blame someone else for it. Fantasy: person who thinks that they are above all, and that everybody loves him, but this isnt consistent with themselves. Projection: deny awareness that is inconsistent with himself. Similar to freud"s but difference is this how people handle incongruency. Reflection: taking the experiences the client speak about and trying to understand it and reflecting it back again. Cilent centered-therapy: new direction of roger, and it was emphasizing the client, using reflection technique, but also understanding the experience of the client more.
