Mental health issues are given more attention than before. Abnormal psychology tries to address the following. Developing and evaluating methods for treatment and/or prevention. Children enter mental health systems because adults in their lives are concerned. Children have little to no control over this. Young people issues mainly revolve around the failure to show expected developmental progress. Many issues young people face are not abnormals. Children must been seen as valuable and independent. By doing this it can encourage their progress. Children were seen as servants of the state. Anyone with a mental or physical disability were seen as a burden and embarrassment. It was believed that people with mental disabilities were this way because they were possessed by the devil or of similar forces.
