Normal and adaptive in every day life but abnormal when magnified, frequency, and context. Panic disorder type of anxiety disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of panic. Ptsd re-experiencing of a traumatic event accompanied by heightened arousal, numbing of general responsiveness, and avoidance of stimuli associated with event + impaired functioning. Re-experience by intrusive memories, disturbing dreams, and flashbacks. Symptoms may not appear until months/years after the event.
