Chapter 7: the social construcion of ideas and knowledge. We refer to a body of assumpion ideas, and values that combine into a coherent world-view as an ideology. We acquire this package of beliefs and values through the process of socializaion. Every ideology has the assumpion that our group"s beliefs and behaviours are morally grounded and superior to other"s beliefs and behaviours are morally grounded and superior to others" beliefs and behaviours. All socieies have a set of core beliefs and values. A few people in canada appropriate the surplus produced by others, which leads to gross inequaliies of wealth and power. In every society, the dominant belief system is so deeply embedded in our minds, and so constantly reinforced, that it is hard to conceive of any alternaive analysis. The control that the ruling class has over a society"s belief system is oten referred to as ideological hegemony.
