Document Summary

Population= set of entities from which a sample can be drawn either to describe subset of population. = or to generalize info to larger population. Within population, there are individual members called elements. Sample= group of elements selected from larger population in hope that studying smaller group will reveal important things that may represent larger population. Eg: take first social work class & imagine what the rest of their social work classes will be like. Sampling frame= list of all elements or units containing elements in a population. Eg: want to obtain only a list of rooms in dorm: we draw our sample from dorm rooms (enumeration units) instead of individual student in each dorm (elements) Enumeration unit= contains one or more units to be listed in sampling frame. Researchers can sample different elements within a sampling frame. Sampling unit= population selected for inclusion within a sampling frame.
