Hawaiian silverswords display 3 hallmarks of an adapive radiaion: they are monophyleic group, speciated rapidly, diversiied ecologically meaning in terms of resources they use the habitats they occupy. Niche: describe the rang that a species uses and range of condiions that it can tolerate. Two general mechanisms can trigger adapive radiaions: new resources, and new ways to exploit resources. Ecological opportunity meaning the availability of new or novel types of resources has driven a wide array of adapive radiaions. Species that live on tree twigs have short legs and tail that allow them to move eiciently on narrow surfaces. Species that spend most of their ime clinging to broad tree trunk or running along the ground have long legs and tails, making them fast and agile on broad surfaces. Flowers are unique reproducive structure that helped trigger diversiicaion of angiosperms (lowering plants). Because lowers are paricularly eicient at atracing pollinators, the evoluion of lower made angiosperms more eicient in reproducion.
