Document Summary

Chapter #5: explain some of the long-term benefits of following an aerobic exercise program. Aorta: differentiate between the pulmonary circulation and the systemic circulation. Pulmonary circulation: is where deoxygenated blood is pumped from the heart through the lungs and oxygenated blood is returned back to the heart. Systemic circulation: is where oxygenated blood is pumped from the heart around the rest of the body and deoxygenated blood is returned back to the heart: differentiate between arteries, capillaries, and veins. Arteries: oxygenated blood is carried / pumped away from the heart to all parts of the body. Capilleries: blood vessels that form a network between the arterioles and venules. Distribute oxygenated blood from arteries to the tissues of the body and to feed deoxygenated blood from the tissues back into the veins. Oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange takes place only in the capillaries due to the thickness of the walls of other blood vessels.
