Perception: process by which individuals organize and interpret their impressions in order to give meaning to the environment. You ( the perceiver ) interpretation of what you see is heavily influenced by personal characteristics attitudes, motives, interest, past experiences, and expectations. Loud people noticed more than quiet ppl, attractive vs. unattractive, novelty, motion, sounds, size and etc . Look at relationship of a target to its background influences perception ex. Perceive women, aboriginal people, asians, etc that have clearly distinguishable characteristics. Time at which we see an object or even can influence attention, as can location, light, heat, etc . Nightclub, may not notice someone decked out same person with same outfit at school would attract your attention. Attribution theory: the theory that when we observe what seems like atypical behaviour by an individual we attempt to determine whether it is internally or externally caused. Internally caused behaviour: under the personal behavioural control of another individual.
