Chapter 3 - values, attitudes, and diversity in the workplace. Values - basic conviction that follows up with a specific mode of conduct or end-state of existence. Value system - a hierarchy based on a ranking of an individual"s values in terms of their importance. Rokeach value survey (has two sets of values, each containing 18 individual value items) Terminal value - goals individual would like to achieve in their lifetime (end - state of existence) Ex: an exciting life, a sense of accomplishment, inner harmony, and happiness. Ex: ambitious, broad-minded, capable, courageous, and honest. Power distance - the degree in which people in a country accept that power institutions and organizations is distributed unequally. Ex: a high rating on power distance means large inequalities of power and wealth is tolerable and vice versa. Individualism - the degree to which people prefer to act as individual rather than members of groups.
