Marx begins this chapter by describing co-operation, which is when a collective group comes together to accomplish more than just the individual (marx, 1887, p. 227). Co-operation has existed all throughout history, from the formation of egyptian pyramids to building the newest iphone. Teamwork is also necessary to accomplish almost anything in society in an efficient manner. In short, marx argues that co-operation within firms will result in better production results compared to individuals working by themselves. Marx believed the main way capitalists produce is through the co-operation of others, and that it requires a greater number of labourers working together (marx, 1887, p. 227). This was the starting point of capitalist production, and was necessary to produce under the authority of one capitalist. For example, while building tall building in the past, workers would often be required to collectively carry heavy items up and down the construction site.
