Plato"s example of the cave was probably the first inquiry into the possible effects of tv, the illusion of reality, on the minds of man. Absolute truth never changes and thus never looses it"s value. Chains preventing cave dwellers from moving their heads, unable to see the fire ablaze behind them. Thus, they see only the shadows the fire casted onto the walls of the caves. In front of the fire is a screen, and behind the screen are men with shadow puppet mimicking animals and men. The objects of the shadows are only seen. In conversation, the cave dwellers suppose they arre naming what are actually before them. To them, the truth is nothing but the shadows of the images. If a prisoner is released, they would be compelled to look at the light. The light would hurt them and he would have trouble seeing what was before him.
