Dimensions of qualitaive research: the major dimensions of research are ontology, epistemology, methodology, and methods. Researcher"s ontological and epistemological posiions form the philosophical basis of a research project. Post-posiivist: posits that social world is paterned and that causal relaionships can be discovered and tested via reliable strategies. Interpreive: assumes that social world is constantly being constructed through group interacions, and thus, social reality can be understood via the perspecives of social actors enmeshed in meaning-making aciviies. Criical: views social reality as an ongoing construcion but go further to suggest that discourses created in shiting ields of social power shape social reality and our study of it, 2 primary approaches in using theory. Generates theory directly out of the data: methods: tools that researchers use to collect data.
