Idea that there is genetic basis for crime - perhaps most controversial topic in field of biological influences on criminal behaviour. Controversy arises primarily from misconceptions about genetics. One of greatest misconceptions - relates to cloning, both in animals & humans & to what an actual/hypothetical clone might be. Dolly - finnish dorset sheep cloned in scotland in 1996; died in 2003. Not conceived naturally b/w male & female sheep but was instead cloned from single mammary cell from mother. Cell treated as test-tube lamb & implanted in mother"s womb. Experiment - major medical breakthrough b/c researchers able to create new indiv from another one w/o benefit of egg & sperm, but rather b/c they used cell that was already differentiated. When egg & sperm of any species fuse, they create single cell & at that stage & for first few divisions, each cell capable of performing every function in body.
