Education exists because one generation has something important to transmit to the next. Education has become an inherent part of the american dream, cornerstone and bedrock of society. Mass higher education - any young man/person can go to any university and not be turned away because his family is poor . University of california president came up with the master plan a couple of decades ago. In order to serve everyone in the population who demanded a quality education. Unfortunately, we"re witnessing the end of the master plan . Based on talking with many people - students, alumni, staff, etc. Vision: engaged university; the leading engaged university. Three goals that are interconnected; their interaction gives the uni character. Engaged students who learn from research can go into the community to learn and bring what they"ve already learned to society. Communities provide a source and destination research. Each campus is fused with the surrounding community.
