Document Summary

A classic reasoning form composed of two premises and one conclusion in which the logical truth of the conclusion must be derived from the premisis. Truth of the premises is separate from the validity. What maters is whether the conclusion does or doesn"t follow from the premises. Relaing syllogisic reasoning to real world problems = two step process. Venn diagrams can help determine if a syllogism is true. Condiional clause: a statement that expresses some relaionship. Followed by evidence which pertains to the condiional clause. Involves a logical determinaion of whether the evidence supports, refutes or is irrelevant to the stated if-then relaionship. Antecedent (p): the if clause states the possible cause. Consequent (q): the then statement states the efect of the possible clause. Ater if then statement, give second statement, some evidence about the truth or falsity of one of the proposiions in the if then statement. Goal is to take evidence and decide what follows logically.
