Neurons: cells are building blocks and transmission lines of the nervous system. Cell body: metabolic center of neuron, contains mechanisms to eep the cell alive. Dendrites: branch out from the cell body to receive signals from other neurons. Axons (aka nerve fibers): long processes that transmit signals to other neurons. Has transmitting and receiving ends for signals. Synapse: gap between neuron"s axon and the dendrites of another neuron (neurotransmitter molecules move during nerve impulse to cell body of another neuron) Neural circuits: neurons form connections only to specific neurons. Receptors: there are neurons specialized to pick up info from the environment such as neurons in the eye/ears/skin (specialized receptors cuz they pick up environmental info)
