PSYC 354 Chapter Notes - Chapter 11: Asperger Syndrome
Document Summary
Psyc 354 chapter 11 - understanding the social world. 11. 1 - a brief history: from perspective taking to false belief understanding. Early research on social understanding was inconsistent and could not determine when children begin to acquire social understanding of other people. A new question was raised; this approach was called theories of mind . Wimmer and perner published what is considered the first empirical research on this topic. Involved the change of location task, or the unexpected transfer task. Children are presented a story about maxi, who puts his chocolate in one location but while maxi is outside, his mother moves his chocolate to a new location. Children who are 5 or older will understand that maxi will look in the original location first when he returns back and looks for his chocolate. Children who are 3 years old will counterintuitively claim that maxi will first look in the new location, where maxi"s mother put the chocolate.
