Psyc 379 Week 9 – Other Family Violence  Outline the similarities and differences between elder and child abuse and neglect. o Child Abuse:  The act needs to be intentional.  The act should be judged against community standards  The act includes the endangerment of the child. o Child neglect is the same except instead of intentional it is reckless o Risk assessments for child and elder abuse are incomplete o Elder abuse is seeking more and more attention with an aging population o Child abuse reporting is mandatory under Child Welfare Act o Child Abuse Risk Evaluation (CARE)  Describe the nature and perpetrators of abuse o Mental health, socioeconomic issues, victimization, dependency, physical health.
