BIOL 1051H Chapter Notes - Chapter 27-28: Lactation, Granulosa Cell, Vas Deferens
Document Summary
Puberty is boys is the period from the onset of pituitary gonadropin secretion until the first ejaculation of viable sperm. Adolescence is the broader period of time including puberty and extending until a person attains full adult height. As the hypothalamus matures in late childhood, it begins to secrete gonadotropin-releasing hormone (gnrh). Pituitary then secretes the two pituitary gonadotropins: follicle- stimulating hormone (fsh) and luteinizing hormone (lh) Fsh stimulates the nurse cells of the testes to secrete androgen-binding protein (abp), which binds and accumulates testosterone in the seminiferous tubules and epididymis. Nurse cells secrete not only abp but also a hormone called inhibin, which selectively supresses the secretion of fsh by the pituitary. Testosterone has negative feedback effects on the hypothalamus.
