Not wanting to portray a man as weak feeding off a man, them being. Secrets adding to the story and making it more suspenseful. Author being accused of being a sloppy writer having a lot of loose ends. Carmilla is playing along with the dreams. Laura not even questioning the fact that she and carmilla had the same dream naive quality about her (speaks to about how virtuous she is supposed to be) She is a lot like the narrator in rebecca not picking up on the clues. She represents english, science, educated world view. The reader knows more than she does preserving suspense and terror. We are not connected to her at all because we know what is happening to her opposite of rebecca because we figure out things along with the narrator. Writing it after the fact reliving the trauma, conscious about writing her. Males more prominent in rebecca than carmilla (more submissive)
