The strong emergence of the holistic health care movement has resulted in even broader definitions of health and wellness. In approaching aging from a viewpoint of health, a person"s strengths, resilience, resources, and capabilities are emphasized, rather than existing pathological conditions. In order to promote healthy aging and individualize nursing care for older adults, gerontological nurses must assess and address the impact of the determinants of health. Primary health care principles include accessibility, public participation, health promotion, appropriate technology, and intersectoral collaboration.
