Clinical psychologists and counselling psychologists specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of everyday behavioural problems while psychiatrists are physicians who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of psychological disorders. Psychotherapists use many different treatment methods including discussion, advice, emotional support, persuasion, conditioning, procedures, relaxation training, role-playing, drug therapy, biofeedback, and group therapy. Treatment can be classified into three major categories. Insight therapies which are where clients engage in complex verbal interactions with their therapists. Work on changing (cid:272)lie(cid:374)t"s overt behaviours and use different procedures for different kinds of problems (ex/ classical conditioning, operant conditioning, observational learning: biomedical therapies involve interventions into a persons biological functioning. The most widely used procedures are drug therapy and electroconvulsive therapy.
